The Sign Awards 2023

The Tradeprint team have just returned from a glitzy night in Birmingham, attending The Sign Awards 2023. Hosted by the stunning Emma Jesson, the Sign Awards celebrates the signage industry from all over the UK and Ireland. From traditional sign-making professionals to young sign-makers being recognised for their talents, the sign awards shine a spotlight on all areas of this amazing industry.

Sponsoring the awards were some of the biggest names in the business, with each company being welcomed on stage to hand out an award for a category. Tradeprint was proud to be sponsoring the “Industry Champion” category which celebrates an individual who has dedicated their career to the industry for over 10 years. The nominations in this category were Craig Brown – ISA-UK, Sam Armstrong – Make it Happen, David Allen – Allen Signs and Jeff Bufton – Signs Express. Tradeprints very own Anthony Rowell was honoured to be asked up on stage to announce the winner of this award.  Highly Commended went to David Allen, and taking home the winning award went to the extremely thankful, Sam Armstrong.

During the award ceremony, we got to see some of the nominee’s submissions, and we were blown away by the outstanding work that this industry has produced. Some of our favourites were the Kingly Court, Carnaby street sign manufactured by Goodwin & Goodwin who were lucky enough to walk away with the silver award under the Architectural Sign category. Another colourful winner was The Rainbow at Beavertown Brewery by Custom Signwriting. They grabbed the gold award for the Traditional Sign category which was well deserved.

There were so many companies attending the event, all routing for each other. It was amazing to see the support and appreciation everyone had for everyone in the room. It was clear to see that this industry’s strength is the care and support it has for each other and being able to value each sector for its hard work and commitment to sign-making.

The final and biggest award was the Signage Company of the Year (30+ employees) category. This was awarded to “Greens ‘the signmakers” for their contributions and commitment to the industry. Greens are a family-run company that has been in the industry for 60 years, with Lawrence Green (third generation) taking to the stage to accept this prestigious award.

The Tradeprint team thoroughly enjoyed the evening and celebrated in style. We would like to give a special thanks to Dan Tyler, the founder of the Sign Awards for putting on an amazing event, along with all the catering, bar, and entertainment staff that kept our glasses topped up and music playing.

The Sign Awards are only just over, but we are already looking forward to next year.
