Pledges update – August 2022

Always finding time to give a little back!

As part of our 25th celebration we decided to tackle a few things that sit alongside our values and a few things that are just plain fun.

On Burn’s night, we celebrated by enjoying haggis and those with the culinary gene did whip up home made versions.  There was a very tasty vegan haggis that is now in permanent rotation in the home of one of our team.

Sharon Downie, our Initiatives Director donned her walking boots and walked 50 miles in January for Maggie’s Cancer Care and raised in excess of £515. Some of the team at Maggie’s also delivered a very well attended seminar on the impact of cancer within the workplace.

Heather, our effervescent Head of HR has managed to achieve several of the pledges.  Paid volunteer time has now been signed off for all employees allowing up to 3 days per year to do some voluntary work for something close to our hearts.  Mental wellbeing is also now a top priority within performance reviews and apprenticeships and work experience placements are all ongoing.

Our 25th birthday party, held at The Weaving Shed, Dundee was a huge success with plenty of cocktails, beers, food trucks and dancing.  It’s safe to say we all enjoyed it.

We have made donations to Dundee Women’s Aid, Andy’ Man Club Dundee, Feeling Strong –  a children’s mental health charity in Dundee and we have donated revision notebooks to a local secondary school.  We have also continued our support of Emma the Elephant who is in the capable and adoring hands of Wildlife SOS who rescued her from a life of torment and abuse.

Some of the simpler challenges happened very easily such as book swapping, walking up and down hills, swimming and paddling in the sea and binging our dogs to work.  At this stage I think we have an honorary member of staff in Parker the Samoyed; arguably the cutest and fluffiest of our colleagues.

We still have a few pledges to tick off before the end of the year but we know we’ll get them done:

  • Come to work dressed up for Halloween
  • Attempt Mo-vember
  • World Kindness Day – perform a random act of kindness
  • Pledge 25p for every order sold throughout December to local charities
  • Donate to a local toy bank for Christmas
  • Learn a new skill/hobby
