Tradeprint Expands Capacity with Canon ProStream 3133 and Tecnau Revolution 50 Series Investment

Tradeprint Accelerates Print Innovation and Sustainable Growth with Latest High-Speed Inkjet and Finishing Technology

As one of the UK’s leading trade printers, we are pleased to announce a significant investment in new digital print and finishing technology to further expand our capacity and enhance sustainable production.

We will soon be adding a Canon ProStream 3133 high-speed inkjet press, configured roll-to-roll (R2R) with Tecnau Revolution 50 Series unwinder and rewinder systems, supplied by Friedheim International, and complemented by the Tecnau Revolution 50 AutoSetup Stack 5251L finishing line.

This latest investment underscores our commitment to delivering the highest quality digital print at scale, with maximum efficiency and sustainability in mind.

Unmatched Speed, Quality and Flexibility

The Canon ProStream 3133 represents the next generation of high-speed web-fed inkjet technology, capable of running at up to 133 metres per minute, with the option to upgrade to 160 metres per minute.

Combining offset-class print quality with digital flexibility, the ProStream delivers exceptional results across a broad range of coated and uncoated media up to 300 gsm, making it ideal for high-pagination, low-copy products such as perfect bound bookssaddle stitched magazineswiro bound books and short run catalogues

Powered by Canon’s native 1200 dpi piezo inkjet heads, ColorGrip conditioning, and advanced air flotation drying, the press ensures consistent colour accuracy and a superior tactile finish, even at high speeds. With seamless integration into existing workflows and a robust PRISMA production management platform, we will be able to offer fast turnaround times with reduced waste and energy consumption.

Fully Automated Finishing The Tecnau Revolution 50 Series

To complement this cutting-edge press, we have also invested in the Tecnau Revolution 50 Stack 5251L AutoSetup, first showcased at Drupa 2024. This state-of-the-art finishing line provides fully automated cut, stack, and trim operations, capable of complete job changeovers in under 30 seconds, with no human intervention required. Utilising 2D Data Matrix recognition, the system automatically adjusts for imposition changes and full-bleed layouts, maintaining precision and minimising downtime. Designed for near-line operation with web-fed inkjet printers at speeds up to 180 metres per minute, the Stack 5251L integrates Smooth-Web™ motion technology, a dynamic web aligner, and IoT-enabled Tecnau Connect for remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance.

This configuration ensures the right job is always run on the most efficient press alongside our existing Canon iX 3200 inkjet presses and Heidelberg 106 8-P LEDUV press, optimising workflow and capacity management across the business.

Supporting Sustainable Growth and Customer Demand

As print demand continues to rise, particularly in short-run, high-pagination work including perfect bound, wiro-bound and stitched booklets and magazines, this investment ensures we are ideally positioned to meet customer needs while maintaining our commitments to sustainability.

The ProStream 3133’s energy-efficient drying, reduced waste rates, and recyclable ink technologies complement the company’s sustainability objectives without compromising quality or turnaround.

Rod Scrimgeor, Operations Director at Tradeprint, commented:

“This investment reinforces our position as a technology-driven manufacturer, focused on efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. By adding the ProStream 3133 and Tecnau Revolution 50 line, we’re increasing our production speed, precision, and flexibility to meet growing customer demand, while continuing to invest responsibly in the future of print.”

Stuart Rising, Head of Graphic Arts at Canon UK and Ireland, said:

“We’re delighted that Tradeprint has chosen the Canon ProStream 3133 as part of its latest investment in digital print technology. This reflects the strength of our long-standing partnership and the trust they place in our service and support. The ProStream series is designed to deliver exceptional quality at high speed while supporting sustainable production practices. Combined with our ongoing commitment to customer success, this installation will enable Tradeprint to expand its capacity and efficiency, helping them meet growing customer demand with confidence and creativity.”
